Hello Everyone,
The Lansing Legislature passed the 2026 Budget Bill and it will be signed by the Governor. The DNR is preparing a statement that will be released soon on the impacts the 2026 Budget will have on the Department.
Justin Tomei from MUCC indicated that no license fee increases were included in the 2026 Budget, but it does allow for the passage of new bills that would enable restricted fund appropriations to be used to modify or increase license fees. This emphasizes the importance of working with our state legislators to enact new bills that would upgrade fisheries and other related outdoor program funding. In the 2026 Budget, there will, however, be a one-time $2.8 million General Fund/General Purpose appropriations for fish production and stocking in the Great Lakes and inland fisheries. For a complete list of Justin’s highlights follow this link, https://www.mucc.org/michigan-legislatu ... highlights.
As I mentioned in my previous email, Ed Blissick from the Great Lakes Salmon Initiative has been working along with Mark Williams (586 531-2763) and other supporters on Lansing House Bill 5093 that would significantly improve the method of funding the Fisheries Division. Below is Ed Blissick’s contact information and a bias book link that provides the details of House Bill 5093.
